• About Us

    GREEN POINT INITIATIVE is an initiative born out of passion and leadership to contribute to the sustainable development goals via its strategic arms in tackling environmental issues, Socio-economic issues, market place issue (e-commerce) through advocacy, awareness , campaigns, voluntarism , social integration, partnership and wealth creation.

    GPR is an arm of GPI which basically advocate for recycling of used pet bottles , creation of jobs and protection of our environment and climate .

    At GPI we are for-profit social enterprise that promotes environmental sustainability, socio-economic development, and community health by providing convenient recycling services in densely populated cities neighborhoods. We gives households and micro-entrepreneurs a chance to generate value from their recyclable waste and provide a reliable supply of raw material to the local recycling industry.

    The GPI team is made up of dedicated, knowledgeable and passionate individuals.

    Five basic values drive everything that we do:

    We work on the basis of respect, appreciation and commitment at all times, as do our members and our stakeholders.

    We seek every opportunity to create work, entrepreneurship opportunities and hope for previously disadvantaged people, including women and youth, for whom recovery of waste could be a lifeline.

    As a start-up business, we believe that all our activities must be carried out with honesty, sincerity, care and reliability.

    We are committed to providing our services in an efficient manner, anticipating the future needs of our members wherever possible.

    Because we subscribe to triple bottom-line business principles, we always seek to implement business practices, which are environmentally and socially sustainable.

    GPI via our GPR department seeks to minimize the environmental impact and promotes social economic values:

    1.To provide communities with exceptional Waste Recycling Services that protect and Improve the Quality of Life in the communities we serve.

    2.To to change the orientation of the communities and educate them on the importance of recycling to environmental sustainability, community health and flood mitigation.

    3.Growing the collection & recycling of PET bottles after consumer use;

    4.Supporting existing & encourage new collection and recycling initiatives; and

    5. Promoting a strong focus on public & consumer education & awareness programs.

    Our GPR Operational Activities meet four critical needs;

    1. Give Municipal alternate means to Dumpsites and Landfills, therefore promote good Waste Management Practices.

    2. Help Reduce the rate at which Waste is indiscriminately disposed on Our Roads and Street Corners.

    3. Serve as a means of Economic Empowerment for residents and as such mitigates poverty.

    4. Help Sensitize residents on the importance of Recycling and

    Reduction of Carbon Emission.

    Our Motivation

    GPI via GPR is drive for Social Impact. We understand the huge role the People, the Planet and Profit play in successful maintenance of our immediate environment Eco-preneurship. We are resolute to contribute towards maintaining the Natural Ecological Balance of the Environment, its Natural Systems and Resources along side harnessing the huge Human and Capital Resources available in Africa. These factors motivates us to constantly Innovate for Social Good!

    Our Impact Model

    After years of exhaustive research at identifying pollution conduits, we are able to develop a Social Innovative solution called CCEP (Community and corporate Engagement Programme)- A solution that actively employs active Community Engagement Initiatives to transform Waste dumpsites into Recycling Parks. This way Jobs are created for Youths in Low Income Communities, Waste Burning activities are reduced and Circular Economy is advanced.

    Our Impact ;

    1.Promote waste minimization, re-use, recycling and recovery of waste.

    2.Grow the contribution of the waste sector to the green economy

    3.Contributing to the United Nations SDG 1,2,3,7,8,9,11, (13) and 17.

    4.Ensure the effective and efficient delivery of waste services.

    5.Conduct on-line/public education and awareness activities promote environmental responsibility and encourage PET recycling.

    6.Which has facilitated the creation of many income opportunities, has reduced CO2 emissions and has meant a significant portion of landfill space has been avoided.

    7.Pay women and youth in cash and kind to support their family income.

    8. At GPR we’re governed by these mantra – plastic bottles are not trash, plastic bottles can be reused, our planet needs to be saved – and continuously spread that message as far and wide as we can.

    (do you know you can boost your community economic lifeline via recycling?).

    Our solution VIA GPR

    Today, more of the waste is collected but a large portion consists of recyclable materials that we can recover to produce new goods more sustainably and reduce the flow of materials into landfills and into the natural environment. The most challenging concern for recycling is sustaining an effective buyback system for clean recyclables and an efficient supply-chain system for collection.

    We are planning to launch an awareness programme in Ondo state tagged Cleanliness is next to godliness-our Plastics matters , our climate is key. Which we would use to launch our community and corporate engagement programme (CCEP) which will be rewards-for-waste that incentivizes people in low-income communities to capture value from recyclable waste.

    In picture, as we expand and progress we will build a low-cost waste management infrastructure using collection hubs ,mobile tech and cargo bikes, and providing incentives for people to embrace the environmentally friendly habit of recycling their waste.

    What We Do

    GPR under GPI collects and buys recyclable plastic waste at the household and business establishment level using community cooperation for cleaner environment , dump site and event centres.

    At collection, each household’s materials are weighed and this weight is then entered into our database, Households are then rewarded with redeemable points based on the volume and quality of recyclables they give.

    As households accumulate points over time, they can redeem their points for specific rewards like food items and cash based on the quantity and type of materials they recycle with us.

    Our Mission

    “GPI is working to build widespread citizen awareness , ADVOCACY for climate change, create jobs,network and innovation that there is an urgent need for all Nigerians to collectively agree to work together to save our environment from irreversible damage of climate change as a result of our environmental pollution and helps in socio-economic rank of Nigerians through one of our arms called GPR project.

    Keys Facts About Plastic Bag Usage

    1.In Nigeria about 1000 billion pet plastic bags are used every year

    2.Every hour, approximately 200,000 plastic bags are land filled

    3.A family of four uses an average of 1,500 plastic bags in a year

    4.At least 267 different species of marine life are adversely affected by plastic pollution

    5.225 million tons of non-biodegradable plastics are produced annually worldwide that destroy our environment continuously

    6.Single use plastic bag has an average life span of 12 minutes, and destructive span of about 1,000 year

    It is a common sight to see our streets, drainages, roadsides and even dumpsites packed with recyclable packaging materials which are carelessly disposed of by users. This practice often poses environmental hazards to communities as they experience flood due to the blockage of water drainages by most of these recyclables which has become the fastest growing packaging option in the beverage and food industry. Ondo State (our pilot location) has an estimated population of 3.5 million people and daily generates an average of 2,000 metric tonnes of waste of which 800 metric tonnes are currently recycled. Recyclables form the bulk of identifiable items at refuse points in Nigeria. Often times, the drainage channels in the metropolis cities are blocked by these recyclable items and the resultant effect during the rainy season is flood and breeding ground for harmful organisms.
